First Ascent Coffee Roasters began as a cafe in an old miner’s cabin on Crested Butte’s historic Elk Avenue. We have since closed our cafe and have moved away from roasting fine coffees and strictly focus on producing the most delicious instant coffee on the market today.

We work with reputable importers who help us select coffees from farms and co-ops that offer transparency and traceability, so we can support positive practices for the environment and for coffee-growing communities.

Nathan Baldwin

Owner

Coffee has always been on Nathan's mind since he discovered it post college. He often swears that "I would have had an extra 0.5 added to my GPA had I drank coffee in college." After graduating, Nathan somehow made it through 3 years in the Army without coffee. Now - it's one of the few things he can't live without. Nathan's background includes Operations & Finance that have fully prepared him for taking the mantle of running First Ascent.

Favorite Coffee: Hero Day - he can't travel anywhere without a few packets on him.

Favorite way to spend a day off: A day packed with running through the mountains, eating a meal with friends, or volunteering at any of the endless events Crested Butte has to offer.
