Dawn Patrol dark roast coffee is sourced with the quality and roasted with the balance and precision you have come to know us for. Be ready for whatever adventure tomorrow morning may bring.

We roast on Mondays and Thursdays and ship the next day. All orders placed on Monday or Thursday after 9:00 am will be shipped after the next roast day.

We love the balanced brew of Hero Day, the pure straight perfection of the Ethiopian but for our espresso machine and cappuccino creations we are all about the the rich, smooth dawn patrol. First Ascent’s various coffee varieties suit all our coffee moods because they nail it on every one. It matters to me that they source their beans from truly impressive and responsible (socially environmentally, all of it) places. It shows. And it already tastes amazing, but it tastes better when there’s nothing but good vibes involved. We’ve been ordering a pound every week for over a year now and wouldn’t dream of brewing anything else at this point. I brought the instant variety packs on river trips this summer and people were so happy to choose their favorite style, basically to order. I keep the instant packets in my desk drawer at work and making a quick cup with hot water couldn’t be simpler or more on point to change direction on an afternoon slump. Of course they work great in a thermos on the mountain all winter, too as intended.

I learned about First Ascent coffee while listening to the Gear 30 podcast (episode 158 if you are interested). Sam Higby was awesome. I learned a ton about the roasting and brewing processes, and even coffee tasting. Sam was so impressive that I ordered a bag of Dawn Patrol before the podcast had ended! I haven’t yet invested in a grinder, so I ordered my coffee ground (which Sam convinced me is ok). I chose the espresso grind to use in my espresso maker. My order arrived quickly and was perfectly ground. It smelled fantastic and I brewed a cup right away. I’m no expert, but I could pick up on the subtle tasting notes that Sam described in the podcast. It blew away my usual espresso roast. I drink several cups a day, so I burned through the bag in about a week. The coffee remained fresh in the resealable bag that it comes in. I will definitely order again!
